Join us for a very special evening as we dive deep into the expressive, soulful wines of the Southern Rhône — and celebrate the life, legacy, and visionary work of the late Philippe Viret.
This tasting and class is more than just an exploration of wine. It’s a tribute to a man whose approach to viticulture was unlike anything we’ve seen — connecting, intuitive, and deeply rooted in the rhythms of the Earth and the Cosmos. Philippe Viret was not just a winemaker; he was a philosopher, a healer of soil, and the creator of Cosmoculture — a method of farming guided by telluric currents, lunar phases, and the energy fields of the planet. His vineyard, set above a natural spring in the village of Saint-Maurice-sur-Eygues, fell more like an ancient temple than a winery — a sacred place where vines, stones, and spirits all seemed to speak in harmony.
I will never forget the first time I encountered Philippe and his world. It was a hot April day, and my husband and I were road-tripping with our family from Paris all the way down to Provence. As we drove through the Rhône Valley, I started researching winemakers, knowing we only had time for one visit (I was definitely the only one in the family with such passion of wines at the time!). When I stumbled upon Philippe’s website, I immediately knew: this is where we have to go.
We called, no one answered. Still, we drove straight there, hoping for the best. When we arrived, the building looked more like a cathedral than a winery — striking, ancient, and perfectly at home in the dramatic Southern Rhône landscape. At first, we were received like any other tourists—just another van of wine-lovers stopping in for a quick taste. But something shifted. After I asked a few questions, it soon became clear that Philippe recognized our shared curiosity and passion — our readiness to truly receive what he was offering.
What began as a brief tasting turned into an entire afternoon walking the vineyards, talking about energy and soil, tasting from his amphoras, and learning the principles of Cosmoculture. This day turned to be one of the most profound experiences of my life.
Only a week before, my husband and I had survived a terrifying bus accident — a near-death experience while traveling in Myanmar. We were still shaken, still trying to process the trauma. Philippe’s presence, his gentleness, and the grounded yet sacred way he approached life and wine helped us begin to see the light in the cracks, a step towards the healing. That afternoon, we felt seen. Held. Uplifted. It became a defining moment in our lives one we will never forget.
When I recently learned of Philippe’s passing, I was heartbroken. I knew I want to do something to honor him. So I began reaching out, trying to gather his wines available here in the U.S. And now, with deep respect and gratitude, I invite you to join me for this special evening and tasting of his wines.
Together, we’ll taste through a curated selection of Southern Rhône wines — including several of Philippe’s — and reflect on his enduring influence: on wine, on nature, and on the beauty that unfolds when we open ourselves to connection.
