The Ritual of Wine
Wine and ritual have been intertwined for thousands of years. From ancient Roman, Greek, and Egyptian ceremonies where wine was a sacred offering, to the everyday rituals still alive in traditional cultures around the world, wine has always been more than a beverage. It has been a symbol of presence, connection, celebration, and reverence.
Even today, there is ritual in wine. The moment a bottle is chosen, presented, opened, poured, and shared. The anticipation and curiosity before the first sip. The gathering of people who are truly present, slowing down to savor not just the wine, but the moment itself.
Somewhere along the way, wine also became just another thing. A quick grab at the grocery store. A cute label. A way to unwind without much thought. No judgment here. This is simply how many were taught to relate to it.
I felt compelled to create The Ritual of Wine because wine can be so much more. When chosen with intention and shared with excitement, wine becomes a ritual again. It slows us down and softens us. As we taste, listen to the story of how it was made, and notice aromas, textures, its aliveness - something opens in us. We remember our connection to ourselves, the land, the craft, the people behind the bottle, and to each other.
This class is for anyone who enjoys wine and wants to feel more comfortable, confident, and intentional with it. Whether you already love wine or are just beginning, this space is for you.
We will explore how to choose wine for your own gatherings, how to create a thoughtful wine experiences at home, ordering wine with confidence at a store or restaurant, opening and serving wine with ease, when and how to decant, glassware and why it matters, storage and knowing when a wine is ready, and pairing wine with food in a way that enhances both the meal and the moment. We will taste five different wines and enjoy some delicious charcuterie boards prepared by @zerozero.
This is not about rules or technical language. It is about ease, presence, and enjoyment.
